How Good Nutrition Can Help the Mind, Body & Soul
I have realised in the past few years how important it is to have a good diet and I don't just mean by eating your greens!
I read the book Ultra Processed People by Chris van Tulleken and it completely changed my diet. I used to think that Wholemeal bread from Hovis was healthy until I saw it had about 10 ingredients including emulsifiers, I then realised that usually the less ingredients the better and if I didn't know what an ingredient was then it was probably better to avoid. I used to think that ultra proceed foods were just cheap meat like reconstituted ham but I now know that it's a vast amount of convenient foods.
I also connected the dots between my 4 year old having a complete melt down after eating a doughnut or a Magnum or Muller Corner (all full of emulsifiers, flavourings and stabilisers) but if she ate a Bear Fruit Yoyo or a Bonne Mamam Madeleine or some Yeo Valley vanilla ice cream (no ultra processed ingredients) she was absolutely fine and didn't have a melt down.
Since cutting out the ultra processed foods as much as possible and eating more natural ingredients like eggs, butter, fruit, veg and meat we all feel much better and healthier, less colds/sickness, which has helped us have clearer, happier minds.
